What is the rate and are there any extra charges?

Hotels usually advertise their best prices, but savvy customers know that sometimes those prices do not represent the final amount paid. Room taxes are just one cost that may not be included in the listed price. Smart consumers will ask if there are any additional fees required. Many hotels offer free parking, but this is not the case everywhere. Be sure to confirm this before booking. Finally, don’t be afraid to ask the hotel if it is offering any discounts.

    What amenities are offered?

Your visit to the hotel, no matter how short, should feel like a getaway. Nothing is worse than booking a hotel with the hopes of taking a dip in the pool only to find out that the pool is under renovation or doesn’t even exist. If relaxing in a hot tub or filling up with a free complimentary breakfast is important to you, ask the hotel before you book about the availability of such amenities. Don’t forget to ask about on-site restaurants as well as whether or not the room comes with a mini-fridge and/or a microwave.

    Is free Wi-Fi offered?

In our modern times with almost everyone connected to the internet, access to Wi-Fi is important when traveling. Finding out that the hotel you booked has Wi-Fi, but you have to pay an outrageous fee to access it is not how you want to spend your night away from home. Confirm with the hotel ahead of time that it offers free and reliable Wi-Fi access so that you and your fellow travelers can easily connect to stay informed and entertained.

Is early check in and/or late check out allowed?

Let’s face it: life does not always happen according to schedule. Although conscientious travelers will do their best to arrive and leave during the standard check in and check out times, sometimes it is just not possible. Knowing ahead of time that the hotel you’ve booked will work with you to accommodate the change in schedule is reassuring when life presents a bump in the road. Knowing that an extra fee will not be charged is even better.

What local attractions, restaurants and shopping venues are nearby?

When booking a hotel, travelers often arrive quite weary and in need of refreshment. Some hotels offer complimentary coffee and cookies to arriving guests, but for a real meal you will need an actual restaurant. Knowing that the hotel has several suitable options nearby to choose from will set your mind at ease when traveling. For those who may be staying for longer than a night or two, consider asking the hotel how far away local attractions and shopping venues are located. This will help ensure that you find a hotel located near the things you wish to see and do.
